Working with Lyric

Tasks

A task is a piece of work Lyric performs, prepares or tracks for you. The Tasks page lists every task by where it stands, starting with those that need you.

Where tasks come from

  • Tasks you create or assign to Lyric.
  • Work that results from a conversation with Lyric.
  • Tasks Lyric creates toward your goals.
  • Workflow runs, and work started through the API.

Creating a task

  1. On the Tasks page, select New task.
  2. Describe the task: what needs to happen.
  3. Set a deadline: no deadline, or a date and time.
  4. Choose how Lyric should handle it: Autonomously, Ask first or Manual, and add any instructions.
  5. Select Create task.

You do not need to name the people, places or related work involved. Lyric works them out from what it knows and shows them on the task once it is planned.

How Lyric handles a task

ChoiceWhat Lyric doesAutonomy levelAction minutes per minute of work
AutonomouslyPerforms the work on its own, without asking for approvalDelegate1.00
Ask firstPrepares the work and asks for your approval before consequential actionsAssist0.65
ManualInvestigates and reports, while you take every action yourselfObserve0.25

The choices open to you depend on the autonomy levels your plan includes: Manual on Lyric Free; Manual and Ask first on Lyric Pro; all three on Lyric Max, Lyric Teams and Lyric Enterprise. In an organization, administrators may allow fewer. A task, goal or workflow keeps its choice if your plan changes, and can be changed only to a choice open to you.

Autonomously, Lyric performs the work without asking; Ask first, it asks before consequential actions; Manual leaves every action to you. Whichever you choose, the action boundaries you set and, in an organization, its policies still apply. See Rate by autonomy level.

Approvals

When a task needs your approval, it moves to Awaiting your input and appears in Activity. The request shows what Lyric wants to do, what it has done so far, what will happen once approved and the evidence the task rests on. Time spent awaiting your approval does not consume action minutes.

Tasks and usage

A task consumes action minutes while Lyric works on it, at the rate of its handling choice. A Manual task consumes action minutes at the Observe rate while Lyric investigates, reports and tracks it. While Lyric performs a task, it occupies one of your concurrent task places; tasks beyond your limit wait and begin automatically. On Lyric Free, Lyric performs one task in any 24 hours, with 7.5 action minutes, which is 30 minutes of work. See Action minutes.
