Capabilities
A capability is something Lyric has learned to do reliably. Lyric earns capabilities from experience, by performing work with your permission and confirming that the result held. The Capabilities page shows each capability Lyric has and where it stands.
How Lyric earns a capability
Lyric begins with basic abilities, such as reading, searching and operating the applications you connect within the permissions you give. When it accomplishes a new kind of work with your permission and the result holds, it keeps the method it used, and can apply it again from that point. Every later outcome, successful or not, strengthens or weakens the capability's standing.
Only outcomes earn capabilities. Asking Lyric to do something, however often, does not by itself give Lyric a capability.
Standing

World capabilities and your own
World capabilities
A World capability has proven reliable across all of Lyric's work, and is available to everyone. What decides it is reliability, not how many people asked for it or used it: a method that succeeds for one person and fails for nine others is not a World capability.
Your capabilities
Your capabilities have proven reliable with you and in your environment. No two people have the same set at the same time, and your environment determines which capabilities develop: a research laboratory develops different capabilities from a sales team. In an organization, each person's capabilities are their own.
The Capabilities page
- Graphs: one for World capabilities and one for yours. Each lit square is a capability: blue while Lyric is learning it, gold once unlocked and red if locked. Hover over a square to see its name and since when it has stood where it is.
- List: every capability, sorted by relevance or other orders, with your own standing shown where Lyric has one with you.
- A capability opened: what it is, its standing and since when, what it enables, related capabilities, and the evidence it is based on.

Capabilities on Lyric Free
On Lyric Free, where Lyric works at Observe, Lyric uses the capabilities that investigate and report: reading, searching, analyzing and summarizing. Capabilities that act in your applications, such as drafting a reply, restarting a stopped backup or writing up an incident, appear in the list marked Available with Lyric Pro. They become available when you change to a plan that includes Assist or Delegate.
Capabilities and autonomy
A capability describes what Lyric can do. Your autonomy level, action boundaries and, in an organization, its policies describe what Lyric may do. Both apply to every action: an unlocked capability never allows Lyric to act beyond what you permit.
Capabilities and usage
Capabilities do not consume any allowance. The work in which Lyric uses them consumes action minutes in the usual way.
